Abstract

Peptic ulcer disease is a disorder of the upper gastrointestinal tract caused by an imbalance between aggressive and defensive factors of the gastric mucosa. This condition can be treated using Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) and Histamine H₂-Receptor Antagonists (H2RAs). This study aimed to determine the anti-ulcer effect of ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) based on ulcer index parameters in aspirin-induced male rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study employed a Posttest-Only Control Group Design involving 18 male rats divided into six groups: positive control (omeprazole 20 mg/kg body weight), negative control (1% Na-CMC), ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves (EEJL) treatment groups at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight, and a normal control group (distilled water). The obtained data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that administration of ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves at a dose of 300 mg/kg body weight produced the most effective anti-ulcer activity, as indicated by an ulcer index of 2.00 and a therapeutic percentage of 84.41%.
