Abstract

This study aims to improve the speaking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan through the use of interactive learning methods. The research employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through observations and students’ responses to identify their interests, challenges, and learning needs in English. The findings revealed that 96% of the students believed that English is important for their future. However, 84% of the students still lacked confidence in speaking English, and 96% reported that they rarely used English in daily communication outside the classroom. Nevertheless, the implementation of interactive learning methods was found to enhance students’ confidence in speaking, enrich their vocabulary, improve their fluency in English communication, and encourage more active participation in the learning process. Therefore, interactive learning methods are considered effective in improving students’ speaking skills and creating a more meaningful English learning experience.

Abstract

In the era of Education 5.0, the learning process is no longer focused solely on knowledge transfer but also on developing students' critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problemsolving skills. This study discusses the importance of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) as an instructional approach that places students at the center of the learning process. Through SCL, students actively participate in constructing knowledge, engaging in discussions, solving real-world problems, and reflecting on their learning experiences. This approach encourages learner autonomy, increases motivation, and supports the development of essential 21st-century competencies required in modern society. Furthermore, Student-Centered Learning aligns with the goals of Education 5.0 by integrating technology, innovation, and human-centered values into educational practices. The findings indicate that SCL contributes significantly to improving student engagement, academic achievement, and lifelong learning skills. Therefore, implementing Student-Centered Learning is crucial for preparing students to face the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly changing global environment.

Abstract

This study explores how EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students can expand their modern vocabulary by learning word-formation processes, specifically compounding (combining two whole words) and blending (merging parts of words). Because English is changing rapidly due to social media and the internet, traditional ways of learning vocabulary are often not enough. Using a qualitative approach, this research shows that when students understand how these words are formed, they can more easily understand and create new, modern words used in daily life. As a result, students become more confident and independent in using real-world English. This study suggests that teachers should include word-formation lessons in the classroom to help students keep up with the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the English language.

Abstract

Morphological awareness has been recognized as an important factor in supporting vocabulary learning among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Understanding the internal structure of words, including prefixes, suffixes, and root words, may help learners infer the meanings of unfamiliar vocabulary and improve their vocabulary learning strategies. However, limited studies have explored students' perceptions of morphological awareness instruction, particularly in small-scale EFL learning contexts. Therefore, this study aims to explore EFL students' perceptions of morphological awareness instruction for vocabulary learning. This research employs a qualitative case study design involving four EFL students selected through purposive sampling. Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews conducted after participants receive morphological awareness instruction. The interview data will be transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring themes related to students' learning experiences, perceived benefits, and challenges. It is expected that the findings will provide insights into how students perceive morphological awareness instruction and its role in supporting vocabulary learning. The study is also expected to contribute practical implications for English teachers in designing effective vocabulary instruction for EFL classrooms.
