Abstract

Background. Cholelithiasis is a condition characterized by the formation of gallstones, which may necessitate a cholecystectomy. Globally (as of 2024), the prevalence of cholelithiasis is approximately 6.1% of the world's population, with around 1.9 million cases. The objective of this case study is to provide nursing care for a post -operative cholelithiasis patient. Methods: This study employs a qualitative descriptive design with a case study approach, focusing on a single post -operative cholelithiasis patient at Vita Insani Hospital, Pematangsiantar. The study was conducted from April 29 to May 1, 2026. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and physical examinations over a period of 72 hours (3 × 24 hours). Results: Assessment findings indicated that the patient experienced post -operative pain (rated 8 on the pain scale), a surgical incision wound, limited mobility (muscle strength 4/5), and sleep disturbances due to pain. Identified nursing diagnoses included acute pain, impaired skin/tissue integrity, impaired physical mobility, and disturbed sleep patterns. Following 72 hours of nursing care, pain levels decreased to 0, the wound appeared clean and dry with no signs of infection, muscle strength improved to 5/5, and sleep quality improved. Conclusion: Medical-surgical nursing care for the post -operative cholelithiasis patient was effective; the issues of acute pain, impaired mobility, and disturbed sleep patterns were resolved, while impaired skin/tissue integrity was partially resolved.Recommendation: Nurses are expected to provide nursing care in accordance with established standards to support patient recovery.
