<![CDATA[This article examines the concept of husband–wife relations in the Qur’an and its relevance to the issue of domestic violence through the approach of thematic Qur’anic exegesis (tafsīr mawḍūʿī). The discussion is grounded in the continuing prevalence of domestic violence, which fundamentally contradicts the Islamic principles of marriage that emphasize tranquility, affection, compassion, and justice. The research aims to analyze Qur’anic verses related to marital relations, interpret their normative messages, and explain their implications for the prevention of domestic violence. Employing a library research method, this study applies a thematic Qur’anic exegesis approach by collecting relevant verses, examining them through the interpretations of classical and contemporary exegetes, and formulating a comprehensive understanding of marital relations according to the Qur’an. The findings demonstrate that husband–wife relations in the Qur’an are founded upon the principles of mawaddah (affectionate love), raḥmah (compassion), mutual consultation, justice, and shared responsibility. The Qur’an positions husbands and wives as complementary partners rather than parties engaged in domination or violence. Consequently, all forms of domestic violence (whether physical, psychological, sexual, or economic) are incompatible with Qur’anic values and the broader objectives of Islamic marriage. This article concludes that a proper understanding of Qur’anic teachings on marital relations can serve as both a theological and ethical foundation for fostering harmonious family life and preventing domestic violence.]]>
