Abstract

This research addresses the disparity between economic growth and inclusive welfare in Indonesia by examining the link between investment in human capital and inclusive economic growth. Despite economic expansion, the country hasn't witnessed proportional improvements in poverty, unemployment, and inequality. Employing quantitative methods and a time frame spanning 2000-2020, this study analyzes data on economic growth, education and health financing, and the Human Development Index. Findings reveal a nuanced relationship: while physical capital's impact on economic growth remains insignificant, human capital investment correlates significantly yet negatively with the quality of human capital per economic growth unit. Health sector financing positively influences economic growth, whereas education financing shows a negative impact. Notably, improvements in human capital and health financing significantly enhance economic inclusiveness, indicating their pivotal role in fostering inclusive economic growth in Indonesia in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract

Improving the quality of life for the elderly is essential for fostering a healthier, more prosperous society in Indonesia. In Aan Village, Banjarangkan Sub-district, Klungkung Regency, this goal is pursued through health check-ups, educational sessions by experts, and tailored exercises for the elderly. The program aims to enhance the physical and mental well-being of elderly residents via targeted educational and health initiatives. The program's objectives include: 1) Providing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) on physical and mental health to improve Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP); 2) Educating the elderly on age-appropriate physical exercises to boost health; and 3) Conducting health check-ups to guide subsequent health interventions. These check-ups, performed by trained medical students, assess blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Following these evaluations, doctors offer tailored advice and physical activities designed to promote health. Results indicate significant improvements in awareness and participation among the elderly, with increased engagement in physical activities and proactive health measures. Common health issues identified include high blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol levels, with referrals made for further treatment. Challenges include unstable health conditions, difficult access, and scheduling conflicts with traditional events. Recommendations for future programs include enhancing accessibility, offering flexible schedules, and improving facilities. Despite obstacles, the initiative positively impacts elderly well-being and serves as a model for replication in other villages, contributing to the sustained welfare of Indonesia’s aging population.

Abstract

Background: Digital nomadism in urban areas in Bali becomes more and more defined as the practice of nomads being economically embedded within the economy rather than tourists. Objective: In this regard, this research seeks to investigate the influence of digital nomadism on local business development in the case of the city of Bali by looking into how nomad presence translates into economic gains for the local community. Method: By adopting an explanatory design with a quantitative focus, data from a sample of 150 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operating in Canggu, Ubud, and Denpasar were collected. OLS regression analysis is used in order to evaluate the influence of variables such as digital nomad intensity, professional interaction quality, business adaptation strategy, and customer engagement on local business growth. Results: Results suggest that digital nomad intensity has a positive impact on business growth, with customer engagement as a factor having the highest significance. Most importantly, the interaction effect shows that the economic influence is greatly enhanced through high-quality interactions and a well-adapted digitalization strategy, providing better results than tourist inflow. Conclusion: Relationship building and development of the organization’s internal competencies become key aspects of the economic translation of digital nomadism.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of environmental sustainability practices, social sustainability practices, and sustainability certification and transparency on customer satisfaction and loyalty in Bali's eco-friendly tourism sector, while controlling for demographic and behavioral factors. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 128 domestic and international tourists who had experienced eco-friendly accommodations in Bali. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to test the relationships between sustainability practices and customer outcomes, controlling for gender, age, income level, and length of stay. Reliability and validity were established through Cronbach's alpha coefficients (α = 0.79-0.88) and exploratory factor analysis (KMO = 0.81). The integrated model explained 59% of variance in customer satisfaction and loyalty (Adjusted R² = 0.59, F(6,121) = 21.47, p < .001). Environmental sustainability practices emerged as the strongest predictor (β = 0.35, p < .001), followed by social sustainability practices (β = 0.29, p < .001) and sustainability certification and transparency (β = 0.21, p = .004). Income level (β = 0.17, p = .020) and length of stay (β = 0.14, p = .047) significantly influenced outcomes, while demographic variables (gender, age) showed no significant effects. Tourism businesses in Bali should prioritize visible environmental actions, integrate community-based initiatives, and pursue credible sustainability certifications to enhance competitive advantage through customer satisfaction and loyalty. Policymakers should develop comprehensive sustainability standards that encompass environmental, social, and transparency dimensions. This study advances sustainable tourism scholarship by simultaneously examining multiple sustainability dimensions with rigorous demographic and behavioral controls in a high-pressure tourism destination context.

Abstract

Digital transformation and access to capital are critical drivers of MSME economic growth, yet their combined regional level impact, particularly in East Java, remains insufficiently examined in the existing literature (Sayekti et al., 2024; Utomo et al., 2024). This study aims to empirically analyze the simultaneous influence of digital transformation and access to capital on the sectoral economic growth of MSMEs across 15 regencies/cities in East Java Province during the 2022 - 2024 observation period. Employing a quantitative approach with a balanced panel data framework, the dependent variable is defined as the growth rate of the MSME sectoral Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), while the independent variables comprise the Digital Transformation Index (DTI) and the MSME Credit Ratio (CR), supplemented by MSME workforce growth (LG) and fixed capital investment (INV) as control variables. Model estimation was conducted using the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) and empirical results demonstrate that digital transformation exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on MSME economic growth. Similarly, access to capital produces a positive and significant effect. MSME workforce growth also contributes positively, whereas fixed capital investment shows no statistically significant effect within the study period. Collectively, the model accounts for 78.4% of the variation in MSME sectoral GRDP growth
