Abstract

Waste management at the Gomong Temporary Waste Disposal Site (TPS) in Mataram City still faces challenges, such as unpleasant odors caused by waste accumulation and low public awareness regarding waste segregation. This community service activity aimed to improve public understanding and awareness of sustainable waste management practices. The methods used included socialization, interactive outreach, waste segregation demonstrations, and participatory discussions, conducted in May 2026. The activity involved 30 participants, consisting of residents and traders around the Gomong TPS. The results showed an improvement in participants' understanding, as indicated by their active engagement in discussions and demonstrations. Participant satisfaction evaluation revealed that 96% of participants perceived the benefits of the activity, 95% were satisfied with the material, and 92% were satisfied with the delivery method. This activity concludes that direct environmental education is effective in increasing community awareness and participation in waste management. The implications of this activity recommend the need for similar and sustainable programs involving the community, TPS managers, and the local government.
