Abstract

This community service activity aimed to provide education on coastal waste management to improve environmental awareness and support the cleanliness of Loang Baloq Beach, Mataram City. The activity was conducted using a participatory approach through field observations, interviews, documentation, coastal waste identification, and educational outreach involving local residents, beach visitors, and vendors around the coastal area. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to identify the dominant types and sources of coastal waste and to evaluate the implementation of the educational activities. The findings indicated that the coastal area was predominantly contaminated by inorganic waste, including plastic bags, plastic bottles, Styrofoam, disposable diapers, food packaging, and other household waste transported by river flows, particularly during the rainy season. The educational program introduced the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) and encouraged participants to adopt environmentally responsible behaviors in waste management. The implementation of the program increased participants' understanding of the environmental impacts of coastal waste and highlighted the importance of active community involvement in maintaining coastal cleanliness. In conclusion, coastal waste management education is an effective strategy for strengthening environmental awareness and promoting sustainable coastal conservation. Continuous collaboration among the community, local government, tourism stakeholders, and related institutions is essential to preserve the cleanliness and sustainability of Loang Baloq Beach.
