Abstract

This community service activity evaluates the coastal environmental cleanliness and analyzes the specific types of waste accumulated at Loang Baloq Beach, Mataram, while addressing the behavioral gap in waste management through environmental education. Applying a descriptive qualitative method combined with basic quantitative percentages, data were collected through physical inspection using structured observation sheets across five observation points and semi-structured interviews with 4 selected stakeholders, including visitors, vendors, sanitation workers, and local residents. The findings reveal that coastal cleanliness is sub-optimal, heavily dominated by inorganic litter, specifically plastic waste, accounting for 55%, followed by organic waste at 25%, glass and metal at 10%, and other types at 10%. Although 91.4% of visitors possess high environmental knowledge, a significant behavioral gap exists, driven by a lack of proactive waste disposal, social modeling of littering, limited trash bin facilities on the shoreline, and continuous waste runoff from Kali Bernyok. To address this issue, an educational program and interactive discussions on environmental care were conducted. In conclusion, resolving waste issues at Loang Baloq Beach requires an integrated sustainable framework, combining public education with structural interventions, including the expansion of sorted waste bins, implementation of the 3R paradigm (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and community-based waste banks.
