Abstract

ABSTRACT Preparation for the selection process for prospective cadets of the Institute of Domestic Government (IPDN) involves not only academic and physical abilities but also psychological readiness to cope with the demands of the selection process. This study examines the relationship between self-efficacy, emotion regulation, and anxiety among IPDN selection candidates participating in preparatory tutoring programs in North Sulawesi. A quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design was employed with 162 participants, all of whom were included through total sampling. Data were collected using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and Test Anxiety Inventory-German (TAI-G), which were adapted to the context of the IPDN selection process. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, instrument quality testing, classical assumption testing, and multiple linear regression using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The analysis indicated that self-efficacy and emotion regulation were negatively and significantly associated with anxiety, both when examined partially and jointly (p < 0.001). Among the two predictors, self-efficacy demonstrated a relatively stronger contribution to the model. Overall, the model accounted for 36.8% of the variance in anxiety (Adjusted R² = 0.368), while the remaining variance was attributable to factors beyond the scope of the research model.
