Abstract

Anxiety and stress are major occupational health concerns that threaten employee well-being and organizational productivity. This study examined the effect of trust issues on anxiety and stress among employees at BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Sidoarjo Regency. Using a quantitative causal-comparative design with saturated sampling, the study included all 30 active employees of the agency. Trust issues were measured with the Team Trust Scale as adapted by Al Zahra et al. (2019), while anxiety and stress were assessed using the corresponding subscales of the DASS-42 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale) in its Indonesian-language adaptation. Two simple linear regression analyses were conducted in JASP (version 18) at α = 0.10, a threshold appropriate for exploratory research with small samples (Cohen, 1992). Trust issues significantly and positively predicted work stress  and were positively associated with anxiety levels. Demographic analysis further revealed that male employees, those with ≤5 years of service, outsourced staff, and employees with secondary-level education reported higher trust issues, stress, and anxiety than their counterparts. These findings underscore the need to strengthen interpersonal trust through transparent communication, inclusive integration of employees, and structured psychological support programs.
