Abstract

Background: Social isolation is a common cause of death in schizophrenia patients and is characterized by withdrawal, poor communication, and difficulty interacting with others. Interaction training is a surgical intervention that can help improve patients' social skills during treatment. Purpose: To determine the effect of interaction training on changes in signs and symptoms of social isolation in patients. Method: This study used a case study design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The interaction training intervention was delivered over 14 days through therapeutic communication and gradual social interaction training. Measurements were conducted using an observation sheet for social interaction skills, which included communication, eye contact, cooperation, and social participation. Data were analyzed descriptively based on changes in scores before and after the intervention. Results: The study showed an improvement in the patient's social interaction skills after the interaction training. The social interaction score increased from 18 (poor) on the first day to 34 (good) on the third day. The patient began to make eye contact, speak more clearly, participate in group activities, and demonstrate a friendly and cooperative attitude toward others. Conclusion: Interaction training can help reduce signs and symptoms of social isolation in patients with mental illness. This intervention can be implemented as a self-help measure to improve communication skills and social relationships in patients during treatment in a psychiatric hospital.   Keywords: Interaction Training; Mental Illness; Schizophrenia; Social Interaction; Social Isolation.
