Abstract

Community-based halal tourism has gained increasing attention as an approach to promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism development. However, limited attention has been given to how community participation and halal standards contribute to local economic and sustainability outcomes. This study examines the relationships between community participation, halal standards compliance, local economic benefits, and cultural and environmental preservation in community-based halal tourism in Lombok, Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data were collected from individuals directly involved in tourism-related economic activities. The findings show that community participation and halal standards compliance are positively associated with local economic benefits. Local economic benefits are also positively associated with cultural and environmental preservation, while community participation and halal standards compliance have direct positive relationships with preservation outcomes. The findings highlight the importance of community involvement and effective halal tourism governance in supporting local economic development and sustainable tourism outcomes.
