Abstract

The use of social media as a campaign platform during Indonesia's 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections has increased significantly alongside the rapid development of information and communication technology. While digital platforms provide candidates with effective and efficient channels to communicate their vision, mission, and political programs, they also create new challenges in the form of misinformation, anonymous accounts, campaigns conducted outside the official schedule, and other forms of digital election violations. These developments require the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to strengthen its supervisory role in the digital sphere. This study aims to analyze the implementation of social media campaign supervision conducted by Bawaslu of Buleleng Regency during the 2024 Regional Elections and to identify the factors influencing its effectiveness. The research employs an empirical legal method using a socio-juridical approach supported by statutory and literature studies. The study indicates that although Bawaslu has adequate legal authority to supervise digital campaigns, its implementation remains constrained by rapid technological development, limited technical regulations, challenges in electronic evidence, institutional capacity, and public participation. Therefore, strengthening the legal framework, improving institutional capacity, and optimizing the use of digital technology are necessary to enhance the effectiveness of social media campaign supervision.
