Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and functions of the Kaidipang language register in monoma (fishing) activities in Tuntung Timur Village. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a sociolinguistic analysis. Research data were obtained through observation, listening, recording, and documentation of Kaidipang-speaking communities involved in monoma activities. The results indicate that the Kaidipang language register in monoma activities is divided into word forms, phrases, fixed expressions, and sentences. This register is used specifically in monoma activities and is understood only by the group of fishermen involved in these activities. Additionally, instrumental, informational, personal, and interactional functions were identified in the use of the Kaidipang language register. These registers serve as tools for work coordination, information transmission, emotional expression, and markers of the social identity of the fishing community. The research findings indicate that language variation is significantly influenced by the social context and the activities of the speaker community. Thus, the Kaidipang language registers in monoma activities constitute part of the local knowledge of the coastal community that needs to be preserved.
