Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership transformation in educational quality management before and after the change of principal at SMA Abdussalam Kubu Raya. Studying is a qualitative approach with a comparative case study. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation from informants consisting of the school principal, the vice principal for curriculum, teachers, and students. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and concluding by comparing conditions before and after the leadership transition. The results of the study indicate that during the pre-leadership transition phase, school management remained administrative in nature, characterized by low levels of discipline, suboptimal readiness of teaching materials, and weak academic supervision. After the leadership transformation, significant changes emerged, including strengthened discipline through a digital attendance system, improved readiness of teaching materials, intensified academic supervision, enhanced facilities and infrastructure, and the integration of a pesantren-based curriculum. The leadership transformation also led to changes in work culture and more rational, disciplined, and education-quality-oriented social behavior among the school community. Thus, the principal’s leadership plays a crucial role in the continuous strengthening of educational quality management.
