Abstract

The degradation of numeracy competence and the post-pandemic learning loss escalation indicate a systematic urgency to reconstruct mathematics learning behaviors among junior high school (SMP) students. Orienting on these problems, this qualitative descriptive research utilizing a literature review method is designed to construct a profound understanding regarding the implications of Kurikulum Merdeka implementation on students' adaptation patterns and learning behavior transformations. Through content analysis techniques reviewing 25 scientific articles from 2020–2025 registered in Google Scholar, Garuda, and SINTA databases, it is revealed that this curricular transition triggers an ambivalent influence. Within the positive spectrum, instructional flexibility escalates active participation, self-regulated learning, intrinsic motivation, and students' collaborative orientation, whereas the negative spectrum introduces barriers such as limited self-efficacy, academic anxiety, stagnation of teacher pedagogical readiness, and digital device distraction risks. Based on these dynamic insights, future researchers are recommended to conduct direct empirical investigations in the field to authentically verify these shifts in mathematics learning behavior across various geographical variations and socioeconomic stratifications of educational institutions in Indonesia.
