Abstract

Biology learning on biodiversity material often faces challenges such as low student motivation and limitations in conventional learning media. To address this issue, this study aims to develop Powtoon-based animated videos using Problem Based Learning (PBL) that are engaging and effective as learning media for biodiversity material in Grade X senior high school. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model up to the Development stage, including curriculum analysis, material analysis, student analysis, instructional design, lesson module preparation, video storyboard development, as well as validation and limited trials. Validation was conducted by five validators (three lecturers and two biology teachers), while limited trials involved university students and high school students. Data analysis was carried out descriptively to evaluate the quality of the media based on content, pedagogical, design, language, and audio aspects. The results indicated that all validation aspects received average scores ranging from 3.56–3.78 with a Very Valid category, and limited trial phases I and II yielded average scores of 3.77–3.78 with a Very Good category. These results confirm that the Powtoon-based animated video using Problem Based Learning is feasible to use and can enhance students’ motivation and understanding of biodiversity material.
