Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the level of students’ academic stress, (2) identify the level of students’ academic self-efficacy, and (3) examine the significance of the relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic stress experienced by students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational analysis design. The study population consisted of 825 students of MAN 1 Padang City enrolled during the July–December 2025 semester. A sample of 301 students was selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using an Academic Self-Efficacy Checklist and an Academic Stress Checklist. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation analysis. The findings indicate that: (1) students’ academic self-efficacy was at a high level, (2) students’ academic stress was at a moderate level, and (3) there was a significant negative relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic stress. This finding suggests that higher levels of academic self-efficacy are associated with lower levels of academic stress, and vice versa.
