Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors influencing the low learning motivation of tenth-grade students and identify the obstacles faced by teachers in Cultural Arts learning at SMA Negeri 2 Gunung Talang. The theory used focuses on the concept of learning motivation (internal and external factors) and the effectiveness of fine arts learning. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, classification, and narrative presentation. The results showed that students' learning motivation was unevenly distributed; 40% of students had low motivation during theory sessions and 60% showed good motivation during practice sessions. This low motivation is influenced by internal factors, namely minimal initial interest and a lack of self-confidence. Meanwhile, external factors include afternoon class schedules, peer influence, monotonous theoretical methods, and facility constraints, such as a shortage of practical tools and the absence of an art studio. Teachers have attempted to implement learning-by-doing and joyful learning methods, but the results remain suboptimal due to the lack of collaboration with Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers to address student discipline issues.
