Abstract

This research was conducted to examine the effectiveness of rainbow paper-based unplugged coding activities in improving the pattern recognition skills of children aged 4-5 years at an Islamic kindergarten in Semarang. The study applied a quantitative method using a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants involved 20 children from group A1. Data collection was carried out through observation techniques, while the data analysis employed the Wilcoxon test and N-Gain analysis. The findings revealed that children’s pattern recognition skills improved after participating in the learning activities. The mean pretest score increased from 68.90 to 112.25 on the posttest. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon test produced a significance value below 0,05 (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed < 0.001), indicating a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. The N-Gain score reached 92.54%, which fell into the effective category. Therefore, rainbow paper-based unplugged coding activities can be considered effective in enhancing pattern recognition abilities among children aged 4-5 years.
