Abstract

Paving block is a surface pavement material widely used in Indonesia for residential, commercial, and public facility areas. The quality of paving block is largely determined by the composition of its constituent materials, particularly the cement-to-sand ratio as the main components. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in cement and sand mixture on the compressive strength of paving block based on a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) from various published scientific sources. From the compiled literature, it was found that mixtures with a cement:sand ratio of 1:3 to 1:4 produced the highest compressive strengths of 35-45 MPa, meeting Grade A standards based on SNI 03-0691-1996. Conversely, mixtures with a ratio of 1:7 and above produced compressive strengths below 15 MPa, suitable only for limited use. The water-cement ratio (w/c) also plays a significant role: the higher the w/c ratio, the lower the resulting compressive strength. These findings confirm the importance of optimizing mixture proportions in producing paving blocks that meet national quality standards.
