Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Mind Mapping learning media on students' memory and conceptual understanding in Civics. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects were 40 eighth-grade students of SMPIT COBIG Islamic School Makassar, divided into an experimental class (Mind Mapping media) and a control class (conventional method). The instruments were a multiple-choice test to measure memory (retention) and an essay to measure conceptual understanding. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that the use of Mind Mapping significantly improved memory (mean post-test 86 vs. 74, p = 0.003) and conceptual understanding (72.25 vs. 58.25, p = 0.003) compared to the conventional method. Simultaneously, both variables also showed consistent differences. In conclusion, Mind Mapping is effective and has a significant effect on improving students' memory and conceptual understanding in Civics (PPKn) learning.
