Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has encouraged the emergence of various innovations in school literacy activities. One of these innovations is the use of barcodes as a medium for environmental literacy digitalization. This study aims to describe the implementation of barcode-based environmental literacy digitalization at SMA Negeri 1 Doro, its benefits, and its sustainability potential. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method through observations and interviews involving one Indonesian language teacher, one librarian, and 30 tenth-grade students. The findings reveal that the use of barcodes on various plants within the school environment enables students to access information quickly and efficiently through digital devices. This program not only supports the improvement of students’ reading interest and digital literacy skills but also serves as an integrated learning medium for Indonesian Language and Biology subjects. Despite its advantages in providing easy access to information, the program faces several challenges, including limited information sources, dependence on mobile devices and internet connectivity, and the need for regular barcode maintenance. Overall, barcode-based environmental literacy digitalization has the potential to become an effective educational innovation in fostering digital literacy culture and environmental awareness in schools, provided that it is supported by sustainable management and development.
