Abstract

Issues regarding children’s attitudes toward responsibility, perseverance, tolerance, and morality remain prevalent in Indonesia. This has become a key focus for educational institutions, particularly teachers, in instilling character education in children. This study examines the implementation of guided meditation at Xaverius 1 Kindergarten in Jambi. Xaverius 1 Kindergarten in Jambi has implemented guided meditation activities as a way for teachers to shape children’s character. The researchers opted for a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Phenomenology was chosen as the research design because the researcher wished to explore the informant’s experiences of implementing guided meditation at Xaverius 1 Kindergarten in Jambi. The informants comprised one headteacher, seven class teachers and children aged between 3-6 years. Research data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. According to the research findings, there are three phases involved in implementing guided meditation are planning, execution, and assessment. The knowledge and experience that the informants acquired while practicing guided meditation served as the foundation for each of these phases. Children at Xaverius 1 Kindergarten in Jambi have benefited from guided meditation in terms of their character education are they no better able to concentrate and pay attention to their teachers, they have developed empathy for their peers and teachers, they developed a sense of discipline, they are able to express their feelings honestly, the have developed a character that values and is tolerant of other’s behavior, and they are able to be thankful for what they have.
