This study is motivated by the low reading and writing skills of first-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah Aimas, Sorong Regency, particularly in recognizing letters, distinguishing similar letters, arranging syllables, forming words, and writing simple sentences. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Structural Analytic Synthetic (SAS) method assisted by plasticine media and to determine its effectiveness in improving students’ reading and writing skills. The research method used is mixed methods, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative design applies a Pre-Experimental Design in the form of a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design, while qualitative data are collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The learning treatment is carried out through activities such as letter recognition, syllable formation, simple word construction, and simple sentence arrangement using plasticine. Quantitative data are analyzed through normality tests, homogeneity tests, hypothesis testing using the Paired Sample T-Test or Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and effectiveness testing using the N-Gain score. The results of this study are expected to show an improvement in students’ reading and writing skills after the implementation of the SAS method assisted by plasticine media. Plasticine media helps students learn actively, concretely, enjoyably, and multisensorily, making reading and writing activities more engaging. Therefore, the SAS method assisted by plasticine media can serve as an innovative learning strategy to improve early literacy skills among lower-grade elementary school students.
