Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and typical variations of colloquial language in the actors’ speech in the ANTB Official YouTube content. The use of colloquial language in digital media is growing alongside the rise of informal communication, making it an interesting topic to examine from a sociolinguistic perspective. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis. The research data consists of utterances containing colloquial language variations in eight episodes of *Ramadhan di Kontrakan* on the ANTB Official YouTube channel. Data were collected through observation, note-taking, and documentation, then analyzed through the stages of identification, classification, interpretation, and conclusion-drawing based on Eric Partridge’s theory of colloquial language. The results show that there are 58 instances of colloquial language variations consisting of five forms: 16 instances of singular forms, 12 instances of compounds, 11 instances of contractions, 10 instances of word fragments, and 9 instances of polysemy. Singular forms are the most dominant because they reflect the use of simple, effective, and communicative vocabulary. In addition, this study identified four typical patterns of colloquial language variation: the dominance of the Medan Malay dialect; the use of informal greetings; the influence of digital language and social media; and the use of humorous and expressive language. These findings indicate that the colloquial language used in ANTB Official’s YouTube content not only serves as a means of informal communication but also represents cultural identity, developments in communication technology, and strategies for fostering connection and providing entertainment in digital media.
