Abstract

This research aims to analyze the construction of women in romantic relationships in TikTok content created by @nmaliccaa using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis. The growing popularity of relationship advice content on TikTok has positioned social media as a space that shapes public perspectives on romantic relationships and gender roles. The @nmaliccaa account consistently shares relationship advice encouraging women to be independent, set standards, and value themselves, while simultaneously having the potential to reproduce patriarchal values. This study employed a qualitative approach using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis. The data were collected through documentation of nine TikTok videos posted by @nmaliccaa, a literature review, and supporting information regarding the creator and the social context surrounding the content. The analysis was conducted through three dimensions: text structure, social cognition, and social context. Research findings indicate that women are constructed as individuals who must improve themselves and set standards in relationships, yet their orientation remains directed toward relationships with men.
