Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of interactive media and its effect on students' participation and understanding of geographic concepts among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 8 Mandau. The study employed a quantitative approach using a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of an experimental class that learned using interactive media and a control class that received conventional instruction. Data were collected through students' participation observation sheets and pretest–posttest concept understanding tests. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including the normality test, homogeneity test, Mann–Whitney U test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the implementation of interactive media was successfully carried out and effectively increased students' participation, as indicated by the increase in participation from 68.50% to 90.62%. In addition, students' understanding of geographic concepts improved, as reflected in the increase in pretest and posttest scores and an N-Gain value in the moderate category. Statistical analysis indicated that interactive media had a positive effect on students' participation and improved their understanding of geographic concepts among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 8 Mandau.
