Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of the boarding school system and analyze students’ satisfaction with dormitory care at Elementary School Sekolah Rakyat Semarang City. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Participants included the principal, teachers, dormitory caregivers, and students. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that the boarding school system has been implemented comprehensively to provide integrated educational services for students from extremely poor families through a 24-hour residential education model. The program integrates academic learning, character education, discipline, independence, and positive daily habits. Dormitory care is carried out through guidance, supervision, mentoring, and the habituation of positive behavior, enabling students to adapt to dormitory life and develop confidence, independence, and social skills. Overall, students demonstrated a good level of satisfaction, reflected in their enthusiasm for learning, positive relationships with peers and caregivers, and a sense of safety and comfort in the dormitory. Although some students initially experienced homesickness and adjustment difficulties, continuous support from caregivers and peers helped them adapt successfully. The study concludes that effective boarding school implementation contributes positively to students’ satisfaction, character development, and overall well-being.
