Abstract

This article explores the social motifs of the Sasak community underlying the Daus Gong tradition in Bonjeruk Village, Jonggat District, Central Lombok Regency. The Daus Gong tradition is a sacred purification ritual for the gendang beleq musical instruments, preserved for generations by the local community. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were systematically gathered through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders, community figures, and gendang beleq musicians (sekahe). The analysis utilized the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the community's social motifs in conducting the Daus Gong tradition include spiritual and symbolic purification, the maintenance of social harmony, conflict prevention, cultural preservation, the strengthening of social solidarity, and the enhancement of the community's economy through cultural tourism. Furthermore, based on Max Weber's theory of social action, the tradition reflects value-oriented rational action, traditional action, affective action, and instrumental rational action. The Daus Gong tradition functions not only as a vessel for cultural and spiritual values but also as a crucial social adhesive that strengthens interpersonal relationships and ensures the sustainability of the Sasak community's social life in Bonjeruk Village.
