Abstract

In sports, particularly in soccer players, injuries are common and generally involve the lower extremities, such as the ankles, knees, and leg muscles. One program developed to reduce injury risk is FIFA 11+, a warm-up program designed by the FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) for injury prevention, especially in soccer players. The FIFA 11+ Program consists of a series of warm-up exercises aimed at improving core stabilization, muscle strengthening, proprioception training, and jumping techniques. This review study examines the effectiveness of the FIFA 11+ program in preventing lower extremity injuries in soccer players. The article shows that the FIFA 11+ program can reduce the risk of injury by up to 46.1% and decrease time lost due to injury by 28.6%. The program has been shown to improve peak knee extension torque as well as increase heart rate and core temperature. This can lead to enhanced blood flow and increased nerve receptor sensitivity, potentially improving muscle performance to reduce injury risk. Therefore, the FIFA 11+ program is an effective method for reducing injuries in soccer players. Although some studies mention insignificant effects on ankle stability, the program remains effective in overall injury prevention. The FIFA 11+ program is used as a simple, effective, and time-efficient injury prevention program that can replace other exercises. This training simultaneously targets various aspects.

Abstract

Swimmer's shoulder is an overuse injury commonly seen in individuals involved in competitive swimming or repetitive shoulder activities. This condition characterized by pain and dysfunction in the shoulder region, this condition primarily arises from repetitive overhead motions and high-intensity training associated with swimming. Shoulder impingement is identified as the leading cause, with a prevalence of 84%, followed by scapular dyskinesis (82%), and supraspinatus tendinopathy related to overuse (69%). Swimmer shoulder diagnosis is often based on clinical evaluation, patient history, and imaging studies, with an emphasis on identifying specific causative factors and assessing the extent of structural damage. Treatment strategies include a combination of rest, physical therapy, and modifications to training regimens to address muscle imbalances and improve technique. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be considered to repair damaged structures and alleviate persistent symptoms. Preventive measures focus on proper technique, gradual increases in training intensity, and regular strength and flexibility exercises to reduce the risk of swimmer's shoulder. This journal aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the characteristics and biomechanics of proper and improper freestyle strokes, which have a high prevalence in swimmer's shoulder, as well as effective preventive and therapeutic strategies to minimize injury risk. Further research is also needed to evaluate the effectiveness of individualized rehabilitation programs based on the severity of the injury and swimming biomechanics.
