Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a major health issue in Rusunawa Selagalas, driven by inadequate ventilation and smoking behavior. The objective of this community service, to identify priority health problems, analyze major risk factors, and implement an educational intervention (“SEGAR”) to reduce ARI risk. Community diagnosis was conducted through direct observation, structured questionnaires (n=91), and priority setting using the Delbecq method with resident participation. Main variables included ventilation, smoking, and ARI incidence. Descriptive (univariate) analysis was performed. ARI was reported in 80.22% of residents, with poor ventilation and smoking as dominant risk factors. The SEGAR education program improved awareness of ventilation hygiene and smoking hazards. Community-based education combined with basic housing improvements is effective in mitigating ARI risk in dense housing. Sustained collaboration between residents, housing managers, and local government is recommended.
