Abstract

Environmental degradation and climate change necessitate the development of sustainable philanthropic instruments. Protective tree waqf represents a form of green philanthropy grounded in Islamic values and offers long-term ecological as well as socio-economic benefits. This study examines the optimization of protective tree waqf as a green philanthropy instrument to support environmental conservation and sustainable development. The research adopts a qualitative approach through a systematic literature review of waqf regulations and environmental waqf practices. The findings indicate that protective tree waqf has significant potential to enhance ecosystem resilience, improve environmental quality, and generate sustainable social benefits. Effective optimization requires professional governance, adaptive regulatory support, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. With integrated management, protective tree waqf can function as a viable and sustainable green philanthropy mechanism in addressing contemporary environmental challenges
