Abstract

Background: Social media has become an important source of health and nutrition information for adolescents. Objective: This study examined the relationship between exposure to nutrition education content on social media and nutrition knowledge among students at IPIEMS Senior High School, Surabaya. Methods: A quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 95 students selected using accidental sampling. Exposure to nutrition education content and nutrition knowledge were measured using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Gamma test at a 5% significance level. Results: Most respondents had low exposure to nutrition education content (42.1%), while moderate nutrition knowledge was the most common category (46.3%). A significant association was found between exposure to nutrition education content on social media and adolescents' nutrition knowledge (p = 0.042). Students with higher exposure tended to have better nutrition knowledge. Conclusions: These findings suggest that social media can be an effective medium for nutrition education when supported by accurate and credible information.
