Butuh Village, Butuh Subdistrict, Purworejo Regency is home to various home-based businesses, such as the production of palm sugar, salted eggs, rempeyek, and bread, which use stoves, fireplaces, or LPG cylinders as heat sources. Additionally, the village hosts a Nutrition Service Unit (SPPG) under the Free Nutritious Meals program, which operates large-capacity LPG cylinders in its production kitchen. These conditions pose a significant fire risk, yet the community has never received direct education or fire mitigation drills. This community service activity aims to enhance the knowledge and preparedness of the Butuh Village community in preventing and responding to fires, including the use of portable fire extinguishers (APAR) and handling LPG gas leaks. The activity was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Butuh Village Multipurpose Hall, in collaboration with the Purworejo Regency Fire Department (Damkar), and involved 30 participants consisting of RT/RW representatives, MSME operators, SPPG officers, the village head, village officials, and PKK members aged 25 and older. The methods used included interactive lectures, demonstrations of fire extinguisher use employing the PASS technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), simulations of LPG gas leak response and regulator removal, as well as hands-on practice of fire suppression techniques using wet cloths. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests consisting of 10 true-false statements. The results showed that the average pretest score of 76.0 increased to 97.0 on the posttest, a rise of approximately 27.6%, with all participants demonstrating improved understanding after participating in the hands-on practice. This activity proved effective in enhancing the community’s knowledge and preparedness, particularly among home-based business owners in addressing potential fire hazards in both residential and business environments
