Abstract

Adolescence is the spearhead of the nation's change and hope, but adolescence is also a phase prone to being affected by negative behaviors such as drug abuse and promiscuity. Research in rural communities involving youth organizations such as Karang Taruna is still limited, so this service activity aims to describe the process of implementing socialization and analyze adolescents' responses and perceptions to the material presented. The activity was held on August 2, 2026, at the Lubanglor Village Hall, Butuh District, Purworejo Regency, with a target of 35 youth members of the Youth Organization aged 15-21 years. The socialization was delivered by the Butuh Police Chief through interactive lectures and discussions, with a descriptive qualitative approach and analysis using the Health Belief Model (HBM). The results of the activity showed that the implementation process took place in seven series of orderly and interactive events, with the full participation of all participants. The enthusiasm of the participants was very high, reflected in the activeness of listening and the 8 critical questions asked in the discussion session. The two main questions from the participants highlighted the factors that cause adolescents to remain under the influence of drugs even though there has been socialization and concerns about the increasingly sophisticated mode of drug trafficking and disguised in various packaging. Analysis with the Health Belief Model revealed that this socialization served as the dominant cues to action, increasing participants' perceptions of vulnerability, severity, benefit, and self-efficacy, but the perception of barriers—especially in the form of natural curiosity and peer influence—remained the biggest challenge. Positive impacts were identified through increased alertness, understanding of the dependency process, and participants' confidence to reject drug invitations. This activity emphasized that community-based socialization in rural areas through Karang Taruna is an effective strategy to increase adolescent awareness and fill research gaps that have been dominated by studies in urban environments and formal schools
