Abstract

Current instructional practices often isolate historical, environmental, and linguistic knowledge, neglecting the pedagogical potential of integrated local topics to enhance interdisciplinary learning. This study aims to analyze students' levels of historical, environmental, and English language literacies and investigate the interrelationships among these competencies within a place-based pedagogical framework. Employing a mixed-methods descriptive-correlational design, data were systematically gathered from high school students and subject-matter educators (History, Biology, and English) through academic performance tests, structured questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The results indicate a significant interconnectedness among the three literacies, demonstrating that integrating local environmental and historical contexts provides empirical evidence of enhanced English language acquisition and cross-disciplinary comprehension. In conclusion, place-based pedagogy effectively disrupts traditional disciplinary silos, offering a robust instructional design that fosters interdisciplinary synergy and holistic competency development in secondary education ecosystems.
