Abstract

This study aimed to determine the feasibility of Smart Box media for teaching ecology at the junior high school level. The research was motivated by students' difficulties in understanding abstract ecological concepts, highlighting the need for innovative and interactive learning media. This study employed a research and development (R&D) approach adapted from the ADDIE model. The participants were 29 seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Pontianak. The Smart Box media was validated by two media experts, while the learning material was evaluated by three subject-matter experts. Data were collected through media validation sheets, material validation sheets, and student response questionnaires to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed media. The validation results indicated that the Smart Box met the criteria for feasibility in terms of both media design and content quality. Student responses also demonstrated that the media was engaging, increased learning interest, and facilitated a better understanding of ecological concepts through visualization and interactive learning activities. Overall, the findings suggest that the Smart Box is a feasible and effective learning medium for ecology instruction and can serve as an alternative teaching aid to support science learning in junior high schools.
