Abstract

Indoor air quality monitoring is important in workplaces because hazardous gas exposure may occur without clear sensory indications. This study developed an Internet of Things based air-quality monitoring system by integrating an MQ-135 sensor, an ESP32 controller, an LED Matrix P10 local display, and the Ganesha16 web monitoring platform. The novelty lies in the simultaneous delivery of environmental information through a local public display and remote web access within one integrated architecture. The system was developed using the Prototype method, covering requirement analysis, system design, prototype implementation, functional testing, evaluation, and refinement. Continuous testing was conducted for three days in a workplace environment and produced 1,090 monitoring records. The mean Air Quality Index was 41.84, classified as good, while all five functional scenarios, including sensor reading, data transmission, LED Matrix display, web monitoring, and real-time communication, operated successfully. These results show that the proposed architecture can support accessible real-time indoor air-quality monitoring. However, because MQ-135 responds to several gases, the prototype is more appropriate as an early air-quality monitoring system than as a precision instrument for carbon monoxide concentration measurement.
