Abstract

Dramaturgy of social media among Qur'an memorizers (hafidz) at State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in East Java in constructing religious identity within digital culture. Social media has become a new stage where individuals manage impressions, negotiate identities, and communicate religious values to diverse audiences. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation of content on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The findings show that hafidz strategically present themselves through short recitations, concise Qur'anic reflections, and visual religious symbols that strengthen credibility and emotional engagement with audiences. At the same time, backstage spaces such as halaqah, mosques, and tahfidz communities remain important for maintaining authenticity and spiritual discipline. The study also reveals that successful digital da'wah depends on balancing platform aesthetics with the sacredness of Qur'anic messages. Rather than losing their religious identity, hafidz adapt it selectively according to context, audience, and media logic. This research contributes to communication studies by demonstrating that social media can function as an effective arena for contemporary Islamic communication when managed with ethical awareness, consistency, and creative strategies.
