Abstract

The agricultural sector is a crucial pillar of the economy of Central Java Province as a national food granary. However, spatial disparities in agricultural productivity exist among regencies/cities. This study aims to analyze the effects of the number of financial institutions, rainfall, land area, irrigated land area, and the number of farmers on agricultural productivity in 35 regencies/cities of Central Java in 2023, while accounting for spatial spillover effects. Secondary data were analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression and the Spatial Lag Model (SLM) after the Lagrange Multiplier test indicated spatial lag dependence. The SLM results show that land area has a positive and significant effect, while the number of farmers and rainfall have negative and significant effects on agricultural productivity. The number of financial institutions has a positive but insignificant effect, and irrigated land area has a negative but insignificant effect. The findings also confirm the existence of positive spatial spillover effects among regions. Improving agricultural productivity in Central Java requires an integrated inter-regional policy approach that utilizes high-productivity areas as leading regions.
