Abstract

The Bible affirms that parents bear the primary responsibility for the faith education of their children, as clearly stated in Ephesians 6:4, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, and Proverbs 4:10-15. However, this theological mandate now faces severe pressure amid digital technological disruption, which has shifted children's interaction away from their parents toward gadgets and social media algorithms. This study aims to (1) analyze the theological foundation of the parental role as faith educator within the Christian family, and (2) reconstruct that parental role so that it remains relevant to the reality of today's digital family. This research employs a descriptive-analytical qualitative method with a library research approach and theological hermeneutics, drawing on biblical texts as well as a number of relevant journal articles and theological books. The findings show that Proverbs 4:10-15, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, and Ephesians 6:1-4 consistently position parents as educators who are marked by integrity, holistic engagement, and continuity. Meanwhile, digital disruption has shifted part of the faith-education function toward algorithms and social media, requiring a repositioning of the parental role, from controller to companion, model, and partner in digital discernment. The study concludes that reconstructing the parental role does not mean abandoning the biblical mandate but rather translating it into contextual practices relevant to the digital era.
