Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the role of religion as a psychological resource for early teenagers (ages 13-15) in the digital age. The method used is qualitative with content analysis. The data collection was performed by conducting semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires to eight informants in South Jakarta on May 14-15, 2026. The results highlight four main themes: prayer and worship as crucial coping mechanisms, the conflict between religious practice and social media use, tangible religious experiences as proof of religion’s psychological role, and the fluid character of early adolescents’ spiritual lives. The study is built on three theories: ibadah is an inner peace that nothing can replace (Daradjat, 2010), religious experience and its consequences in daily life are the strongest form of religiosity (Glock & Stark in Rozalina, 2021), and initial religious experiences are a basic pillar for adolescent identity formation in Erikson’s psychosocial development stage five. “Religion, especially prayer.
