Abstract

This study aims to analyze the village head's leadership style, working environment conditions, and their relationship with the work motivation of village officials in Sirau Village, Karangmoncol District, Purbalingga Regency. The research focuses on the village head's leadership practices, physical and non-physical working environment conditions, and the officials' experiences in fostering work motivation while carrying out village governance duties. The study employs Northouse’s leadership theory, Robbins and Judge’s work motivation theory, and Sedarmayanti’s working environment theory as the analytical framework. A qualitative approach with a descriptive research design was utilized. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving seven informants selected via purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results indicate that the Sirau Village Head employs a leadership style characterized by participative and democratic approaches, evidenced by open communication, the involvement of officials in decision-making, the provision of direction, leading by example, mentoring, and the appreciation of work outcomes. Findings regarding the working environment reveal that both physical and non-physical conditions shape the officials' work experiences—specifically concerning workspace comfort, the availability of supporting facilities, interpersonal relationships, communication, teamwork, and the overall work atmosphere. Officials perceive these conditions as factors that foster comfort and enthusiasm in performing their duties. Work motivation is manifested through discipline, responsibility, work spirit, commitment, and enthusiasm in delivering services to the community. Overall, the findings demonstrate a link between participative leadership practices, a supportive working environment, and the work motivation experienced by village officials in executing governance tasks and serving the community.
