Abstract

Kampar Regency has great potential in the goat farming sector; however, farmers frequently encounter constraints regarding the limited availability of quality feed, particularly during the dry season. This Community Service Program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers in Penyasawan Village through training on alternative feed processing technology in the form of cassava leaf waste silage. The implementation methods encompass partner problem identification, socialization, theoretical counseling, and practical demonstrations of anaerobic silage-making over a period of 21 days. The activity results demonstrated an 80,7% increase in participant understanding, which is reflected by the rise in the average post-test score (82.4) compared to the pre-test (45.6). The resulting silage met good quality standards, characterized by a fresh acidic aroma, a non-slimy texture, and a pH range of 3.8 to 4.2. Economically, the adoption of this technology has the potential to save feed costs by IDR 450,000 to IDR 600,000 per month for 10 goats, while simultaneously supporting a sustainable farming system and a village-level circular economy.

Abstract

Water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) hold a strategic role in smallholder farming systems and rural food security. Natural pastures in Salo Sub-district, Kampar Regency, serve as the primary extensive feed source. However, native forage productivity frequently faces constraints due to low soil fertility and high grazing pressure. This study aims to identify the botanical species and analyze the composition of forage vegetation in buffalo grazing lands within Salo Sub-district using an exploratory descriptive survey method combined with a vegetation analysis approach. Based on field observations, the botanical composition of the forages is categorized into three main groups. The identified grass species include Axonopus compressus (tropical carpet grass), Paspalum conjugatum (carabao grass), and Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda grass). The identified weed species include Spermacoce latifolia, Melastoma malabathricum L., Ammannia baccifera L., and Asystasia gangetica, some of which are utilized flexibly by livestock as part of mixed forage

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) made from a mixture of cattle urine and fruit waste on plant height growth, leaf length, and fresh weight of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum). The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatment levels and 5 replications, namely P0 (control / without LOF), P1 (50 ml LOF/liter of water), P2 (100 ml LOF/liter of water), and P3 (150 ml LOF/liter of water). The results showed that the application of cattle urine and fruit waste liquid organic fertilizer significantly affected plant height, leaf length, and fresh weight production of elephant grass. The treatment with the highest concentration, namely 150 ml LOF/liter of water (P3), yielded the best results for plant height growth (140.60 cm), leaf length (130.20 cm), and fresh weight of elephant grass (3,637.00 grams).
