Abstract

Modern mosques serve not only as spaces of worship but also as public venues accommodating various social and recreational activities. This study aims to identify the physical setting of the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque in guiding visitor behavior toward planned spatial functions and to identify emerging behavioral patterns. The study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing behavioral mapping and field observation methods to record activities across various mosque zones, alongside user perception surveys to understand user interaction within the spatial setting. The analysis is conducted by correlating physical elements, including fixed and semi-fixed features, with user behavior as non-fixed features. The results highlight the mosque's crucial role as a dynamic religious public space in facilitating worship and social activities, while also identifying certain spatial setting inconsistencies. These findings provide valuable contributions to the management and operators of the Al-Jabbar Grand Mosque regarding the future development of physical setting designs and visitor flow management.
