Abstract

This research is motivated by the diversity and richness of Indonesian culture. Indonesian cultural diversity is reflected in the practice of traditional ceremonies rich in philosophical values, including the Sundanese wedding tradition. This study aims to analyze and explore the philosophical meaning contained in each stage of the Sundanese traditional wedding ceremony. This study uses a systematic literature review approach, following the PRISMA procedure. Data were obtained by searching scientific articles in various online databases from 2014 to 2023, and articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 22 relevant articles. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through comparison, interpretation, and synthesis of findings from various sources. The results show that the series of Sundanese traditional wedding ceremonies is divided into three main stages: pre-akad, the main procession, and post-akad, each representing a specific philosophical value. The pre-akad stage reflects the values of readiness and purity; the main procession reflects commitment, responsibility, and social legitimacy; while the post-akad stage reflects the values of harmony and the sustainability of household life. Overall, these values demonstrate the integration of spiritual, social, and cultural aspects in Sundanese life. This study concludes that Sundanese traditional wedding ceremonies are not merely symbolic but also contain a relevant value system that serves as a guideline for building family life. This finding implies the importance of cultural preservation as a source of contextual learning.
