Abstract

This study aims to determine whether attachment to the father plays a role in self-compassion among adolescents from divorced families. The background of this research is based on the condition of adolescents who are in a developmental period characterized by biological, cognitive, and socio-emotional changes. For adolescents experiencing parental divorce, the development of self-compassion becomes important in assisting individuals in accepting themselves and facing various psychological challenges. One of the factors suspected to influence self-compassion is attachment to the father. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The subjects in this study consisted of 80 adolescents from divorced families selected using purposive sampling with a snowball sampling technique. The instruments used were adaptations of the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) scale by Safaria (2024) and the Adolescent Self-Compassion Instrument (ISCIRA) scale by Sari et al. (2022). The hypothesis data were analyzed using simple linear regression with the help of the IBM SPSS program. The results of the study indicate that attachment to the father does not play a significant role in self-compassion among adolescents from divorced families, with Sig. 0.498 (p > 0.05), thus the researcher’s hypothesis is not supported. The contribution of attachment to the father on self-compassion is only 0.6%, while 99.4% of the variation in self-compassion is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The findings of this study indicate that attachment to the father is not the only factor that can significantly explain the variation in self-compassion among adolescents from divorced families.
