<![CDATA[ This study focusses to describe the depiction of the kinds of Indian food in Medan and toanalyze the meaning of Indian food in Medan based on the semiotic approach. India isa developing country and has a very large population of cuisines from various regions ofthe Asian subcontinent among which a distinctive feature of Indian cuisine is the use of a variety of spices and vegetables native to India, and the variety of Indian vegetarian dishes also reflects the diversity of religions and cultures. Data analysis in this study usesFerdinand de Saussure's theory. This research uses qualitative research methods. The data is collected by analyzing the types of Indian food. The researcher chose Indian foodin Medan because there were only a few who researched Indian food in Medan in thevillage of Madras. In this way, it is hope that it will be useful for readers to more easilyunderstand the meaning of the description of the types of Indian food in Medan. The results of the research analysis, the researcher found several Indian foods containingsemiotics, totaling five, each of which has its own meaning, Samosa; from the results found that Samosa is also a symbol of hospitality and is often use as a welcome gift forguests is also an important part of daily life and eaten as a snack or supplement, Biryani; in indian culture itself, biryani rice is a food that shows properity because it can be consumed by all indians, Curry; according to the indian community,curry is not only a term used by the british to describe an unknown indian stew or ragout, but also a newdish invented for the british in India.]]>
