Abstract

Current reading accuracy is an important factor in industrial automation systems because it affects the monitoring, control, and protection of three-phase induction motors. This study aims to analyze the accuracy of current readings in systems based on Electronic Over Current Relay (EOCR) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) by comparing the results of EOCR and PLC readings against a reference measuring instrument. The research method used is an experiment by varying the current through changes in the load resistance of a three-phase induction motor. The EOCR analog output signal of 4–20 mA is acquired by the PLC, then processed using the linear scaling method and displayed on the Human Machine Interface (HMI). The results show that the EOCR has an average error of 2.78%, while the PLC has an average error of 5.08%. In addition, the correlation analysis shows a coefficient of 0.994, which indicates a very strong relationship between the PLC readings and the reference measuring instrument. The results prove that the EOCR–PLC system is capable of monitoring the current of a three-phase induction motor in real time with a high level of satisfactory accuracy. Therefore, the proposed system can serve as an effective current monitoring solution and provide a basis for enhancing industrial motor protection and monitoring systems.
